Stewart S.T.E.A.M Lab

The Stewart Standouts S.T.E.A.M Lab is located in Darian Stewart's hometown of Huntsville, Alabama at the James A. Lane Boys & Girls Club. Servicing over 600 students annually, participants utilize the "Garden of S.T.E.A.M" and NASA Math & Science Discovery Resources curriculum. With state-of-the-art equipment, the Stewart S.T.E.A.M lab gives students access to a positive learning environment and allows students to become producers instead of consumers of technology.

The Stewart Standouts Foundation emphasis on supporting student athletes, provided extra motivation to succeed on and off the court. I was named to the Southern Athletic Association All-Academic Honor Roll both my freshman and sophomore year. I received multiple athletic awards including being named to the All-Conference team. Because of the Stewart Standout S.T.E.M Scholarship I was awarded, I was able to further explore my passion for computer science without the worries of any financial burdens. I am extremely grateful for the foundations’ support during my college journey.

My freshman year experience was great. I was a part of the ALSAMP scholarship program, which I am still apart of today. During my freshman year I completed 28 credit hours and had a cumulative GPA of a 3.55. As well as maintaining academic excellence I was also admitted into multiple honor societies such as The National Society of Leadership and Success, Sigma Alpha Pi, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, The Society for College Leadership and Achievement. I also was a part of BSAC (Black Student Awareness Committee) and BMEN (Blazer Male Excellence Network).

Standout Scholarships

Stewart Standouts Foundation Inc. awards an annual scholarship to a minority and/or woman college student that majors in the S.T.E.A.M discipline. Minorities are vastly underrepresented in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); one of SSF mission's is to increase representation and close the gap. The demand for qualified STEM professionals is high but the supply of STEM workers to fill these positions is at risk if underrepresented groups are not engaged in these fields.

Food Drive

Food Insecurity is a huge issue and has been exasperated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Stewart Standouts Foundation (SSF) is committed to assisting with providing food for our most vulnerable members of society. Past initiatives include partnering with Brookland-Lakeview Empowerment (BLEC) in Columbia, SC to provide 350 meals per day to seniors. SSF will continue these efforts in communities located in Charlotte, NC, Huntsville, AL and Columbia, SC.

Virtual Leadership Series

MARCH 2021 VIRTUAL LEADERSHIP SERIES WITH SWANSEA HIGH SCHOOL IN SWANSEA, SC

The Stewart Standouts Foundation (SSF) objective for the Virtual LeadershipSeries was to ensure that students were equipped with leadership skills and resources to assist with navigating their personal and professional lives.

Students are currently experiencing uncharted territory in their lifetime while remaining diligent students in the midst of a global health crisis, social injustice issues, and increasing professional and personal pressures. The VirtualLeadership Series goal was to enhance their cognitive health and provide independent thought processes that will assist in their decision-making.
